We learned about natural disasters through project-based learning. Each student had to choose a natural disaster they felt most impacted society. We then formulated our own questions for research. After gathering research, we each had to write a survival plan listing what people needed to do before, during, and after the natural disaster. We also had to list what they would need in their emergency safety kit. We took the information we learned to write a narrative, acting as if they were in the middle of a natural disaster. We would like to thank the Douglas County Emergency Management Team for taking the time to come out and speak us about how to be prepared for a disaster and how to stay safe. Finally, thank you to meteorologist, Gary Lezak and his weather team for taking the time to judge our weather forecasts. It made learning about weather much more relevant and meaningful to us.
